Ashtabula County Metroparks Press Conference


JEFFERSON, OH – (February 13, 2006)

The Ashtabula County Metropolitan Parks District kicks off its 2006 “Vote Green” Levy Campaign with a “Fall in Love with the Metroparks” Valentine’s Day news conference, Tuesday, February 14th  at 10 a.m. The event will take place near the entrance of the Western Reserve Greenway Trail on Route 307, just east of Route 45, in Austinburg Township, Ohio. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held nearby inside the Austinburg Town Hall, on Route 307. Details about the Levy will be released at that time.

Those taking part in the event include the Ashtabula County Metropolitan Park Board of commissioners: Karen Rang, President; Marc Hanneman, Vice-President and member Charlie Kohli, who also serves as President of the Friends of the Western Reserve Greenway; Randy Jones of the Ashtabula County Parks Foundation, members of the Steering Committee of Friends of the Metroparks; Bike Patrol Leader Duane Mallory and members of the Metroparks Bike Patrol; and other Metropark volunteers, educators and supporters, along with many local elected officials. Mr. Dan Whitmire will preside as Master of Ceremonies.

The Ashtabula County Metroparks system consists of the 26-mile long Western Reserve Greenway, a multipurpose trail that stretches north-south through the middle of the county; the 35 acre Harpersfield Covered Bridge Metropark, home of the longest covered bridge in Ohio; the Graham Road Covered Bridge in Pierpont Township, a favorite spot for picnics and weddings; the 5-acre Plymouth Township Metropark, featuring a fishing pond and pavilion, and more than a half-dozen undeveloped holdings and projects in development, including the 17.5 mile, 220-acre Pymatuning Valley Greenway, stretching from Dorset Township to Pymatuning State Park in Andover; the 30-acre Eyring Wetland and Nature Area in Austinburg Township; the 50-acre Saybrook Nature Area in Saybrook Township; the Grand Lakes properties in Dorset Township, slated for future development for primitive camping and nature study; Pymatuning Acres in Williamsfield Township; the Lakeside Wetland Conservation Easement in Saybrook Township and the Richland Township wetland conservation easements.
