FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
JEFFERSON, OH – (April 17, 2006) –
The Ashtabula County Metroparks District will introduce its new costumed mascot, “Andy Acorn”, Saturday, April 22, 2006, at the first annual Ashtabula County Sport, Travel and Outdoor Show, at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds in Jefferson, Ohio. The Metroparks district is one of more than 50 exhibitors taking part in the weekend expo. Metropark volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the Metroparks system and its upcoming levy, at their information booth inside the Expo Center.
The “Andy Acorn” mascot costume was created by Media Magic Productions Graphic Artist, Carol Dickson. This bike-peddling, messenger of goodwill is based on a design by the teenage winner of the Metroparks 2004 Poster Contest, which was open to all students, grades 7 through 12, who were residents of Ashtabula County. Entries were ranked on the basis of originality, creativity and overall visual appeal.
“Andy Acorn”, and his stuffed side-kick, “Metro Squirrel”, are scheduled to appear throughout the weekend at the Outdoor Show, at the Metroparks’ annual fundraiser, March for Parks Saturday, April 29th at the Western Reserve Greenway, Lampson Entrance, and various other festivals and gatherings throughout the year.
Also making an appearance throughout the weekend will be members of the legendary Ashtabula County Metroparks Bike Patrol. These volunteers, donned in bright yellow shirts, will be riding outside around the expo center, and will offer cyclists, young and old, lessons on bike etiquette, promoting the Western Reserve Greenway trail rules and giving tips on how to make riding the Greenway a safe and fun-filled experience.
The Ashtabula County Metroparks currently has a measure on the May 2nd primary ballot. The measure seeks voter approval for an Ashtabula County property tax levy of point-four mill (4/10 of a mill).
