Case Study: Apple Heating and Cooling TV Advertising Campaign

Scott Robinson Apple Heating and Cooling  Scott Robinson        President, Apple Heating & Cooling

“Cheryl brings creative abilities to help us with creating effective television ads. She has worked with us from beginning concept through shooting and production. We have also benefited from her extensive experience in making the most of our media planning and buying.”

The Client:

Apple Heating and Cooling, a Heating and Air Conditioning Contractor, serving Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga and parts of Cuyahoga County.

The Situation:

Apple contacted us to work with them on a two-year, cable and broadcast television advertising campaign, introducing their new company branding to Ashtabula and Lake counties. We met with then-owner Scott Robinson to discuss his vision for the 30-second spots. With big ambitions and a tight marketing budget, we worked together to produce an effective, attention-grabbing campaign that would remain affordable.

The Strategy:

Following our meeting, Media Magic’s Cheryl Dickson-Walker conceptualized and scripted a series of 8 TV ads, incorporating Scott as the company spokesperson, along with two testimonials from Apple Customers. Once the spots were finished, we consulted with Scott about media buys and placement. By having 8 spots, apple was free to rotate them and take some of them off the air for a while, keeping the campaign fresh for a couple of years.

Media Magic set up three, ten hour days of  on-location shoots using a three person crew led by director of Photography, David Walker: one, at Apple’s Ashtabula headquarters for Scott’s green screen filming and b-roll shots of Apple employee training and miscellaneous other shots, and one day at each of the homes of Apple customers giving testimonials, to interview the clients and get more b-roll of Apple employees interacting with customers and working on the job.

The Result:

Apple received an uptick in sales and inquiries, following the airing of the 8 commercials. We were told that the commercials were received with a very positive response. The commercials were also incorporated into the company website and Apple’s YouTube channel. A couple of years later, they expanded their growing business into Geauga and Cuyahoga counties.

Aloterra Energy NE Ohio/NW PA Miscanthus Project Informational Meeting 08/04/11

Interested in gaining an income stream from your unused farmland? Aloterra Energy (www.AloterraEnergy.com ) is hosting an informational meeting  for  landowners and farmers in Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Erie, Crawford and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania, at Emerine Estates Winery in Cherry Valley, Ohio, from 5-7pm ,Thursday August 4th.  This meeting is free and open to the pubic. Aloterra is still seeking local farmers or land owners to farm miscanthus grass- which will be used to make bio fuel products. However, for participating farmers and landowners to receive tax credits and government funding, they must sign up by September 1st. Otherwise, unused money that is dedicated to Ashtabula county and the other counties in the project zone, will go back to Washington, DC. Company representatives will be on hand to answer any questions and explain the urgency of the situation.

Aloterra Energy recently received USDA approval for funding to grow Miscanthus, a sterlile, warm-weather hybrid perennial grass, used to produce biofuels, through the establishment of acreage in northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania as one of four Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) project areas. The company looks to combine the benefits of growing Miscanthus as a renewable energy source with the BCAP incentives that encourage local farmers to grow a biomass crop. Farmers only have until September 1st, to file applications and begin the process to qualify to receive Ohio’s CAUV tax credits and BCAP federal funding.

Aloterra’s project area along the Ohio-Pennsylvania border has guaranteed BCAP funding for 5,344 acres in 2011, which will go to the first farmers to sign up in Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Crawford, Erie and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania. State renewable energy portfolio standards and the Environmental Protection Agency transport rule are critical drivers in establishing a biomass crop for power generation in Ohio.

Under current guidelines, BCAP will reimburse farmers up to 75 percent of planting costs and pay an annual rent payment while farmers wait for their crops to mature. Once the crops mature, farmers will be eligible to receive two years of matching payments for their tonnage, up to $45 per ton beyond the selling price.

Farmers who want to find out more about the project should contact Scott Coye-Huhn at 440-666-2053  or email: scoyehuhn@aloterraenergy.com. Approved producers who want to participate in BCAP will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Producers will need to sign an agreement with Aloterra to obtain initial approval and will finalize enrollment in BCAP by taking the signed agreement by the September deadline to their local FSA office.

Aloterra Energy LLC develops biomass conversion facilities through cultivating sources of biomass crops to expand fuel marketing, distribution and logistics operations into the biomass renewable energy market. For more information on Aloterra Energy, visit aloterraenergy.com. Emerine Estates Winey is located at 5689 Loveland Road, just off Route 6 in Cherry Valley. For more information on this event, contact Cheryl Dickson-Walker, publicist at Media Magic Productions: (cell) 440-645-9472, studio line: 440-294-2431, or e-mail: cheryl@mediamagicproductions.com
